vista to xp help.

Hello, hello. I am trying to switch from vista to xp on my toshiba a200 laptop. I tried to install xp and now it says " Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above file." Maybe i'm just retarded but the explanation of how to fix this problem on the Microsoft website didn't really help me. Suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Did you try a re-install, of windows? maybe the installation got messed up, its possible

Yeah i tried reinstalling through the recovery program a couple of times. everytime it comes up with the same message.

Don't do a recovery, do a reinstall
