Hi all,

i will be getting my hands on a new Windows Vista Ultimate x64 cd in a few days.

my question is....do you think i should wipe clean my hard drive of Vista ultimate 32 bit and install the 64 bit?

my friend went from 32 to 64 and he said it runs alot smoother but is this true?

The only need to upgrade from 32 to 64 is if you have 4 gb of ram. I've ran both 32 and 64 versions of ultimate on my PC and they're the same.

Thats because you probably didn't use any 64 bit applications.

To answer the OP's question, yes you should format it prior to installing a new OS, it will prompt you during the install anyways and takes under 30 seconds.

I went from Vista Home Basic 32-Bit to Vista Ultimate 64-Bit and I did a complete reformat. So far I've been extremely happy with the new OS. Good luck to you.

Yeah, how the heck did the reformatting process get so quick in Vista? I can remember how long it used to take in XP if you did not use the quick format. Especially as the hard drives got bigger!

Because Vista uses the quick format that was an option in XP, as the default.

what is quick format?

is it like the full format wipes everything and the quick one only changes whatever it needs to and the data only gets overwritten other data is written on there? haha

i got Ultimate x64 today and installed,Yeah format was basicly instant it took seconds and the install itself didnt take long either.
