Vista Ultimate

I just installed Vista Ultimate and was checking out the system restore and backup . It says that it can backup the entire PC but does this mean the OS as well. May be a stupid question but please answer if you can thanks.

Vista has a newer backup feature for literally backing up everything but Windows from the drive especially from a previous version of Windows. It also now has a transfer settings wizard for transfers from one machine to another. Even though it doesn't backup Windows with those you can simply boot with the installation disk and choose the automatic repair option or reinstall boot loader options now included.

2 questions i guess....the OS install disk includes the boot disk right (sounds like common sense and sounds like a dumb question heh) and secondly for vista ultimate....i plan to use a 40GB as my master drive and a 250GB (i think) as my slave drive...is that a smart thing to do and is the 40GB enuff for lets say the OS installation, different programs etc? thank you

I think that you will find that 40gb will get used pretty quick once you start to install programs and put other things on it.

I've got a 40GB HDD, and I've got about 8 GB left, with a bit of music, lot's a photographs, FEAR, FEAR extraction point, Oblivion and BF2 and a load of software.

wht version of vista are u using thou? i mean music n other stuff will go onto my slave drive but im worried about say install programs

And once you start adding a few more things you will start seeing the "out of drive space" or "out of memory"(drive space for virtual memory) errors start coming up where Windows will start locking up at times. You have at most 3gb left before seeing that come up depending on the size of your paging file.
