Until Windows 7 becomes mainstream, I'm going to say Vista x64. Also a review I saw on a magazine said that Windows 7 is 'not' noticeable difference in speed compared to Windows Vista.

Maybe not if you have good hardware.

Try running Vista on a Netbook...
 
I run Windows 7 RC 64 bit on my main system. It has been more stable and rock solid then any other OS I've used. Microsoft really nailed it with Windows 7 and with Microsoft Security Essentials. The one thing I like most about Windows 7 is I didn't have to install a bunch of other software. Windows 7 either comes with most of the software you need or you can get it from Windows Live.

ohh it is...quite alot imo,I ran Vista X64 since it came out,my system in sig was slugish and unreliable.

with 7 its alot faster and if there has been any errors,windows fixed it,it didnt just crash on me.

You can run 7 on a system with only 1gb and it still performs nice,now try that with Vista :)
 
I am happy with Vista. I wont jump on the 7 wagon until I see USER reviews of the OEM...not the hype that is out and about. Same hype which killed Vista too :)


Once they load all the crap on the OEM version then we will see if its actually better at which point I will get it.
 
Twist86 I think you mean RTM or release version not OEM. No OS is good after Dell or HP gets done adding crap to it but at least it can be unistalled.
 
My 64bit version of Win7 slaughter's Vista 64x, it is remarkably better, using less processing power, less memory usage. I couldn't be more pleased with Win 7.
 
To be simple.

Windows 7
XP
Vista


Reason: Vista is just horrible.
XP Great, but will soon stop being supported.
Windows 7 about as light as XP, graphics, support, XP mode ( big deal )


That was just a taste to the bare.
