Having problems playing movies with VLC lately. Used to work fine, although I have been downloading larger files 2-4 gig lately. Any suggestions

What movies are you having trouble viewing? Are you saying that larger videos you are trying to view won't play?

it could be larger file size, not really sure. I'm almost totally computer illiterate. All I know is it worked fine a month ago but now it is constantly stopping and stalling throughout the movie. Usually the screen will stop on a frame but the sound will keep going, then if I pause it it will "catch up" play for another min or two then stop again. Very annoying while tring to watch movie

Sounds like you've got a lot running on the laptop. I'd exit any applications in the system tray, and use CCleaner (google it) to clean out windows and the registry.

Also try a defrag with Auslogics Disk Defrag or Defraggler. (all are free)

I did that yesterday, (after skimming through some posts here, thanks guys) to no avail. Removed a bunch of programs I don't use anymore, there are a bunch of HP stuff that came on the computer that I don't use, can I remove these as well.
