VNC Setup Help

Hey everyone, pardon my lack of knowledge. I would like to use a VNC on a home LAN. But I want this VNC server inaccessible to other computers online. (LAN computers only.) That way I could run CPU intensive tasks, open and close shares, and still keep my main machine free. Essentially use a spare computer for hard drive storage without the need of a mouse, keyboard, or monitor. Thought I'd ask around before installing client/server software. Any suggestions? Could TightVNC be used this way?

Thanks.

I use tight VNC. As long as you have that port closed on your firewall, -I believe it is 5900??- you shouldn't be able to access it from outside your network.

Most modems and routers you get these days run NAT as well as a firewall so even if you did have the port open in your firewall it would still need to be directed to a computer to be accessable from the outside so you shouldn't have to worry at all about that. You might look into ultra VNC or real VNC. Ultra VNC is free and might have some different features you could be interested. It's worth looking at at least.
