Voltage

I have a Compaq, do I really have to get the exact models that are said to be only "compatible" with my computer, or can I just get RAM that has the same specs as what I need even if it doesn't say that it is directly compatible with my computer.
 
my compaq laptop and desktop both have generic retail ram, works fine. just match the specs. goto www.crucial.com for more info.

i've seen dirt cheap ram that is very uncompatible, stick to a name brand. look on this sites faq board for a "RAM 101" post, and it will help you out...
