w/less mouse problem

I'm having a weird problem with my w/less mouse...it worked fine yesterday. Today afternoon it started doing some weird tricks, most of the time the mouse would only respond "when it felt like it" i.e. I would move the mouse around but the arrow would only move short distances at once in 3-10 sec intervals. Also, it seemed that the powersaving thing was permanently on...the LED never stopped flickering, even when I wiped over it with my finger (I think it should've responded to it). Restarting seemed to fix the problem, but only temporarily... and a few hours later, the damn thing would stop working altogether. The LED never came on, numerous restarts and plug-out-plug-ins wouldn't do a thing.

I've tried 2 different sets of brand new batteries, so that can't be the problem...also, there's a button on the receiver and a button labeled "connect" on the mouse, I've been clicking the for a while now but no luck.. ah and the mouse happens to be Microsoft some-basic-cheapo.

Anyone know what could be wrong with this?

less than 1m away, on a shelf about 30cm above the mouse, in the exact same location it's been before and worked fine. I don't think that could be it, I've tried moving it around but nothing... :(

Would you happen to know what frequency it is on?

Just a few question......

OK, are you able to post a link to what type of wireless mouse it is...

do you also have a wireless keyboard??? if so pls post a link to it as well

do you have a wireless network in your house or close by???

have you installed the driver for the wireless mouse?

It's a "Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2000", and no, the k/board is not wireless. I probably COULD post a link, but my internet got speedlimited (too much downloads, went over the limit) so looking for it would be a pain.

We don't have wireless network, the only wireless thing nearby that I can think of is a set of w/less headphones but they haven't caused any problems before, plus I've tried switching them off, no luck.

It didn't come with any drivers, it worked fine before, I've tried plugging/unplugging the receiver and it seems to recognize it correctly. Shows up in device manager, no exclamation marks or whatever.

1.5v AA, I've tried a good selection of brand new batteries that I've tested and made sure that are 100% charged up and ready to use, I don't think that's it...

You running out of ideas ;)

Anyway, now I've got another problem - even my wired mouse "stutters"...at times the arrow doesn't move even though I'm moving the mouse, sometimes the arrow moves slower than it should...like using a ball mouse that hasn't been cleaned for ages. But it's optical. This same thing happened with the w/less, I don't think the problem's with the mouse...
