However recently, I have learned of these new parts which will be coming out shortly... and in some cases are already out. First being, the Core i7 Processor by Intel. This processor SOUNDS very nice, I hear it can boost gaming and performance 52%, and has been overclocked to something like 4.2ghz. This processor is coming out in November. With that processor I would need the new motherboard with the 52 chipset that is coming out with it, as well as the new RAM which has been designed around the Core i7, specifically for gaming. The prices are also relatively cheap. There is also a new graphics card (Fairly new) which is the upgrade from the GTX 260. It is called AMP!2 or OCX MAXCORE, and from my research it is better then any of them, if not equivilent and is far cheaper.

------

So... Should I wait a month or two, and build a system based around these new parts, for around the same price. And do you think these parts will greatly improve performance.

I would wait for the new parts BUT buy the old ones. Once these new motherboards and CPU's come out, prices will absolutely plummet with the older C2Q series cpu's.

I was just reading about the i7 processors. They are going to use HyperThreading to effectively make eight cores out of a Quad-Core processor. That is very impressive to me.

well the only problem i've really noticed is that software (games) aren't really up to standard with the core i7, but they don't lack anything that the high end processors that are out provide now..... and when companies start making software that uses the multi threading then you will see a big improvement, and those who are stuck with the old processors will have trouble running the software and games designed for multi-threading

Not true.

Almost every game being released today is multi-core capable.

Think about it this way. A Q6600 has 4 cores running at 2.4Ghz (essentially). Even if an older game can't use all 4 cores, can you think of an OLD game that will max out a 2.4Ghz core?? To be honest, of all the games I play the only one that doesn't use 4 cores is GRAW 1, everything else uses all 4 cores. Now, factor in the Hyperthreading of the new I7's on a single 2.6Ghz core and you'll be screamin fast.

well i meant hyperthreading/multithreading i know they work on multiple cores... so you think I should get a core i7? Would it be good even if it wasn't overclocked? I would definately buy the cheapest i7- but if the more expensive ones are far better then I'd go with them. I read now that Core i7 wont do well with Directx9 games....... I honestly don't believe it, It's a new technology, everything should be equivilent if not improved.

There are a lot of unknowns. If anything man, wait until they get released and get a really nice C2Q when the prices drop. I'd wait either way though..

thanks for the help then, i'll wait and then I can either buy a cheap quad core or see how people like the i7s

Sounds like a good plan, I'll be doing the same myself. As of now, all I plan on doing is getting a full tower, water cooling, 4gigs of ram and dual 4870's. I'm sure that'll be plenty of power for quite sometime. By the time I'm ready for a new rig the I7's will probably be somewhat affordable, but time will tell.

You could wait, but the problem is that it might take up to a year and half for those parts to come out, specially now that amd got pwned, so intel doesn't have that much of a hurry to release the new processors

I wonder if the Q9650 will drop also when Nehalem comes out? That would probably a good choice that would last till maybe the 2nd or 3 rd generation of the new proc. come out.

The release is in November, that has been announced by Intel.
