Want a cheap gaming laptop.

yeh i would go for a prebuilt/configured machine like mine as you dont need super power to run those kinda games.

but, make sure u get an alright graphics chip in it, eg mine has one made by ATI it is way better to get one made by a graphics company than to just get the processors brand inbuild video e.g. intel.

RAM is upgradeable so dont worry about getting a system with lots of RAM to start off with, same goes for the HDD, but make sure you get at least a 15" screen because 14 is really a tad too small for gaming.

well all laptops are upgradeable up until a cetain point when you cant do anything else with them.

a good laptop to upgrade on would be buying a laptop with a good processor and then upgrading all the other parts over time, as the processor cant really be upgraded. same goes for thee graphics. so peformance wise the CPU and GPU are the limiting factors and the easiest parts to upgrade are the RAM and HDD.

in a laptop the processor can sometimes be upgraded. I upgraded my girlfriends from a 2.0ghz Turion 64 to a 1.6ghz Turion 64 X2. Its not hard it just takes some time and a lot of screws.

Edit: Actually, I upgraded it from the processor in your sig Jon.

o yeh, kwl, i hear it is frustrating to upgrade a lappy processor though :( its probably best to buy a laptop with a processor that wil do everything you need it to do first and then not have to worry about it later.

P.S RyanAndrew, where can you buy laptop processors from because ive never seen them in shops?

yeh but unfortunately i live in England where everything is so much more expensive, and newegg dont deliver to the uk noooooooooo!!

Pfft. Easy. You send me the cash and I buy it/ship it to you I did the swap on an acer aspire 5050 I believe

thanks, thats cool of you, nah im not gonna upgrade mine atm, just wondering about it.

so yeh the key items you will want for gaming.

CPU- at least 1.8Ghz
GPU- u really want at least 128mb gfx

Dedicated graphics is always a plus. But you pay for it.
ATI mobility chipsets work pretty good from my experiences.

CPU: basically you need the same knowledge to pick a good laptop cpu that you do to get one for your desktop.
I went with a dual core processor and I am happy with it. I wish it was a c2d, but we got an uber 20% off on it do I am happy

I don't know how well that would work. A laptop is really the way to go. Unless someone else has a personal experience with something like that (but I doubt it)

well it depends what screen size you want, but these are the two i like from dell, which IMO offer the best value, i got my I9300 for $1200 when it was suppose to be like $2000. ya they offer $750 off or 40% off quite a lot actually just got to notebookreview.com to look for dell coupons

mann.. i paid less than that for a daul core CPU, 1Gb RAM, and a 7 series GeForce... with DVD burner, brighviewdisplay, custom casing from HP

specs in signature

used to have an inspiron 6000 that i overpaid for... had a 2.0 centrino, 1GB RAM with a 64MB GPU with no brightview LCD nor DVD burner... paid freaking 1,200 for it about a year ago...!!!!!

look on ebay for some high powered notebooks... you can usually get lucky and land something 2days old or brand new for hundreds less... just search around
