Issue: I love my computer it works awesome for me. It does everything i want except doesnt play the V-games well, i would consider myself a light-moderate gamer. (ex. Civ 4, FFXI, COH,GW etc.) If only my MB had an APG slot :(

I've looked into replacment MB for 478 cpu's but there just way overpriced...

Goal: Best Machine Performance possible for $ spent. Also incorporate as many older parts as possible to keep costs down.

My idea i ve come up with...

CPU

$100
MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135074
$51
RAM

$90

Graphics: Need major help here, will be determined by mobo most likely and is really my current bottleneck.

OS: XP SP2 Pro
HDD: 160 GB IDE 72000 rpm
CD: Lightscribe CDR
Graphics: PCI x1550 (for the meantime)
Case: Matx Old HP Case (a1110n)
PSU: Apevia 500 watt
19" Monitor/KB&Mouse no worries

Why get 2 sticks of that? You can only file 1 MIR, so 4 sticks of it will cost over $100. I have the ram he linked and it's great. Plus, with only 2 sticks, you can upgrade later on.

And that graphics card looks like a great deal.

Hmm... That's new :o Thanks for the info :)

hmm yes for $30 that ram seems much better and i guess i can always upgrade later. That graphics card is waaaay out of my budget, unfortunatly. B(

The idea i threw out there was just the best i could could come up with for price/performance so please all you pros feel free to give suggestions on every component.

Thanks everyone!

just get the 8600GT. you dont need that great of a card to run those games. you would be satified with a 8500GT. the 8600 would be great. its 100$. seems resonable i hope...

Howd do you guys feel about the processor for the $? It would be the first NON intel chip i buy. But for the $ it appears very good.

That build does look very powerful for how affordable it is, but that MB is not Matx, so it just wouldnt fit in my case.

I really think this one will be the best value etc. Anyone own one of these?

Yes, thats a better motherboard then the original. The X2 5000+ is a very good CPU btw. I had the X2 3800+ and it was playing crisis, so your good there. I would try and get this video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121100 but if that is out of your budget, a 8600gt will work as well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150265
