Want to buy a computer for recording Music

Hey guys I don't know anything about computers and I need your help on deciding what computer to buy or build for recording and reproducing high quality music because my old computer is about 7 years and it really doesn't work anymore.
So my Main Aim is to use the computer for RECORDING and reproducing music.
By the way do Macs work good for recording?
I'm willing to spend 600$-1100$, Any suggestions?

Sidenote: I play electric guitar and connect it through a device that works as an external soundcard. That device comes with a program where I select the amps I want to simulate and edit all my effects and sound quality on the guitar. The sound comes out of my speakers and I record with that device.

Macs are deff the way to go for music production. i'm not talking gaming or photography because all the pc users are going to quote this post and say a remark about price and specs. Any mac really out there can do music production. once it plugs in by usb/firewire it works. every mac comes with garage band which will do basic to nearly premium work and then you can step up to logic express / studio which is what bands use or at least people who earn a good salary in the business BTW garage band you can do effects and all that. pop into a apple store and play with it

How's it goin? It's good to know that people are still into recording music.

I build PCs and I love it, but I also own a Macbook Pro as a laptop. Im in the music business and I can tell you that Macs are what you want to record music. Garage comes free on all macs and it works great for a long time, then you can upgrade to Logic Pro (which is what I use and so do Major recording companies). You can find a macbook or macbook pro for around $1000 new.

Trust me, its cheaper, and easier than a PC to record music. PCs have to many wanna-be brands and Pro Tools ( what everyone on a pc uses) isn't as great as everyone says, there honestly is nothing special about it.

Go to a mac store and at least give one a shot and ask a rep about it. You'll be amazed.

Macs are no better at recording than PCs are. There was a time when they were, but not anymore. The performance differences in them are very, very slight.

The only really useful thing that macs can use and windows can't is Garage Band, and that's by no means a professional tool. Anything else you have to buy, and if you're buying a good program you'll get a similar quality no matter what you use. I've recorded using Reaper, Pro Tools, Audition, Kristal, and even the lowly Audacity, and nearly ALL of them are capable of good quality sound. Audacity lacks a bit, but it's free and simple, so go figure.

The absolute best system that I have seen so far has been Ubuntu Studio. Hard realtime operation and JACK + Ardour gives it abilities that OS/X and Windows cannot hope to emulate.
