Want to Learn About Hard Drive storage programs

This is my first post. I'm a bit intimitdated by the knowledge I see in the few threads I've read. Maybe I should get on a "beginner's" site, but here goes.

I'd like to know about storage sites like Carbonite (etc.)
I can't go back far enough in my "system restore" to get my puter back to normal operation. (I've lost my Norton completely). I am considering purchasing a back-up program in hopes that I can do a HD rebuild and then just use Caarbonite (or whomever) to restore my HD to what it was when I did the rebuild, rather than go through the restore process manually.

I hope my question makes sense. It shows my computer ignorance. - Kevin

Your best bet would be to do a fresh install of windows since it seems it could be corrupt. Then you would have to purchase imaging software like Acronis True Image to make backup images of your hard drive every few days in case of disaster. Then when disaster strikes you can be back up in running in minutes by restoring your drive image.

Yep a fresh install is best because if you do a image and then install that you will simply be back were you are now, if you need somewhere to store your documents and things before doing a fresh install use dropbox it is free and comes with 2gb of free space, it is easy to use to.

2gb? thats a movie and a few songs, lol. just buy a flash drive, 16 or 32gb and back it up to that.

Why can't he use Windopes backup ? I've been using it for years; though I must admit it was more reliable before some of the newer "Updates" were installed.
