Want to upgrade my hard drive

Question is, is it worth it?

Current hard drive is 90Gb 5400 rpm sata 150

Will it be much faster with a bigger hard drive? Also, there are 7200 rpm hard drives available, but they have a sata 300 interface. Will it work with my system?

It is a Toshiba Satellite A100

I am not too worried about higher capacity, just more speed. I upgraded the RAM to 2Gb, new keyboard, and new 8800mAh battery, and the laptop is now very fast, just wondering if the hard drive is holding it back?

By the way, I have 2 RAM slots, but if I put any memory into RAM slot 2, the computer will not boot up, hence only 2Gb of RAM and not 4Gb. Anyway, my computer can only recognise 3Gb anyway, so its no big deal.

SATA 300 should be fine. If your laptop doesn't support it, it should run at SATA 150 speed.

If you want to upgrade the hard drive, and you're looking for faster read/write times, 7200 RPM hard drives spin faster than 5400 RPM (obviously), at the expense of battery life (the higher RPM generally consumes more power).

You can get them fairly cheap now, especially in the size you're looking for, just have a look at the link above.

Hey, thanks for the reply...
But will I see an improvement in performance?
I know a guy I work with who changed his hard drive and saw a huge improvement. But his laptop was a POS to start with.

I'm just wondering if I will see a big difference if I upgrade my hard drive.

Cheers Y'all
