Hey,
A friend helped me build my computer on iBuypower about 5 years ago and I would like some help deciding what to upgrade. I mostly use my pc for gaming. I have about $500 to spend right now.

System
Manufacturer Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Model GA-770T-USB3
Total amount of system memory 4.00 GB RAM
System type 64-bit operating system
Number of processor cores 4

Storage
Total size of hard disk(s) 931 GB
Disk partition (C: ) 393 GB Free (931 GB Total)

Graphics
Display adapter type NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
Total available graphics memory 2815 MB
Dedicated graphics memory 1024 MB
Dedicated system memory 0 MB
Shared system memory 1791 MB
Display adapter driver version 9.18.13.4052
Primary monitor resolution 1920x1080
DirectX version DirectX 10

Thank you in advance. Any help/input is very much appreciated.

What specific CPU do you have?
Also, which power supply?

I'd probably start at the GPU, 250 is pretty dated and wasn't even that high end when it came out.

Thank you for the reply!
AMD Athlon II X4 635 Processor 2.90 GHz
and a 700 watt power supply

Is there a specific model on the PSU ? :) They vary quite a bit as far as quality.

I'd definitely get some more RAM as well, 4 GB is insufficient for most tasks outside of basic browsing etc.
Do you have the model of the RAM sticks too so we could suggest a matching kit?

Sorry for all of the information requests :P

If I may add Beers, an SSD would significantly help the speed of opening programs, booting into the OS and more. You can transfer your OS onto an SSD to make extra space on your hard drive as well as the points previously listed. A Samsung 85O EVO 120gb would be just fine. :)

XION XON-700P-12N
and
corsair dominator 4gb (2x2gb)

Not a problem, appreciate the help.

That power supply is junk. It will not work for a new video card. You will need something like a 500 watt corsair for a gtx 970. Also would need to know the exact model of memory you have. Cpuz would tell you or you can just look at the sticks and tell us the model number.

Sticks: tw3x4g1333c9d

Seems like everything needs to be replaced. Do you think you could give me your opinion on how to prioritize upgrades? or should I consider starting from scratch?

I would actually start from scratch. Am3 is dead. Could you'll get more money somehow?

I could manage 750. You think there is anything I can salvage from this rig? could you link me to some builds?

Here's a build I did for you bud. I left around $100 to choose a case, wasn't sure if you needed monitors but this is a pretty solid build. You can definitely run new games like BF4 as well as your more typical shooters like CS:GO and Call Of Duty. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8QcYFT once you've chosen a case copy the link and share it was us! :)

Cool!

I just added the cheapest case. It would be hidden under my desk anyway.
And I'm fine with my monitor right now.

Do you think I could just keep my 1TB HD?
Also would I be able to transfer my os?

BTW the motherboard you chose was out of stock and it says there is a newer version.

Thanks for the help! :D

Your OS most likely won't transfer being a different motherboard, though there is a way to deactivate it on one computer and move it. I'm not the best to help with that part hehe..

You could keep your HDD, though it would probably be slower than this new one! :)

Keep in mind that cable management is poor in that case so airflow could be affected :(
