Don't let the long read and technicalities scare you away, once you understand basic hardware and the methods described it really gets simple.
No one is born knowing how to configure a computer and fix all of it's faults, and no one learns this over night. Anyone who can tell you how has made alot of mistakes, and was one day the person being taught. And don't thnk once you know how to overclock one computer, you can do them all. With technology progression speeding up, we constantly have to re-learn things, and sometimes "un-learn" things. Those who are older know this the best, I'm only 18 so can't really speak from experience. The closest thing I can recall is the switch from 32bit to 64bit on the consumer market, and the introduction to HTT, which made it alot more complicated than just FSB and a multi/ratio.
