Water in Nintendo DS

Amy + revenge = ruined DS.
Current mood: pissed off

Basically, what happened today is that when I was taking a shower, Amy (my sister) put my Nintendo DS on the sink ledge. We have a shower curtain, not door, so there's a lot of water leakage onto surrounding fixtures. The sink is in close proximity to the shower. So, my DS got water all over it and was completely RUINED. I dried it off, then tried turning it on. Only the lower screen lit, and even then with no text on it (usually comes up with a health and safety warning). I removed the battery straightaway to prevent further fryage (there was a short afaik because the speakers were crackling when DS off) and it's currently drying in my house. Amy owes me $130 plus the cost of any games damaged. She could also serve up to 90 days in a juvenile detention facility, along with 6 months probation.

Any chance my DS is not completely ruined?

First, why would you send your sister to a juvenile detention center and 6 months probation for breaking a DS?!?

About the DS, what i would do is let it dry completely, maybe open it up to dry it off as well. Because if it was just water, thers a posibility that it will dry and work fine again.

i think its runied i dont think theres any way that it wll work again.
I think theres a slight possibility that it will, as long as it dries completly. That happened to my speaker remote and it was really messed up at first, but a few days later it worked fine.

Man, those were fast replies. I can't open the DS, it uses some sort of proprietary screw that looks like Mercedes logo and which I don't have a screwdriver for.

Ah i see, well i would leave it in the house for a few days and then try to turn it on and see what happens.

Were you serious about sending your sister to a Detention Center and 6 months probation?

Set it in the sun to dry all day.

My mom dropped her phone in the sink, completely submerged in water, wouldn't turn on. She dried it in the sun all day...still works to this day, no problems. Friend did the same thing, my dad told him to dry it in the sun, worked for him too. worth a shot...

IM just wondering, why would you send you sister to juvoniel detention over a DS. If it doesnt work you should just have her buy you a new one, not getting the law enforment on it.

you shouldnt have turned it on at all, by doing that you may just have killed it completely.....
Just my thought, many electronics will work after getting wet, as long as they never get turned on while wet to short anything, if you just elt it all dry out first then it will work alot of times....

ah. lol to red onion, I just want to get the differing viewpoints. Amy's voluntarily giving me her DS, she now realises the error of her ways. I guess I was rather overreacting thinking about sending her to a juvenile detention centre.

You sure Poor little Amy is not a pawn in your scheme to get a new or better gaming device? :P.
