wd hd wd2500js found in the trash

found a tower someone through away. I wish i took pictures and did not.
All plexiglass. salvaged the drive, 2 gig ram and dual video card.
i have a rosewill usb external port (usb to sata or ide). i can not get this drive working and suspect its something im doing wrong. the drive is a sata wd 250gig. the only thing i did is set the jumper to 1 and 2. my question is some of these jumper settings may still need to be configured to work with the usb. any thoughts please.

I wouldn't think that you would have to mess with any jumper settings - I would just pull the jumper off. Since it's connected via USB, it's just going to load it up like a flash drive anyway. The drive is getting power right? Please post the model or p/n of the rosewill usb external port you are using.

Of course, the drive could be dead - that may be why it was in the trash.

the computer problem was the mother board or cpu.
let it go and salvaged other parts. on the other hand

i was trying to use with windows 7 pro.
yes....the drive could be bad. dont suspect it yet.
maybe something im doing wrong.

got it. one note i did take the jumper off. plugged it into another computer. xp pro. formatting now. havent tried on the 7 pro yet. still formatting.
the person did not wipe or anything. nothing i want. see music and kiddie limewire. doing a low level format now. used 23 gig out 250 gig available.
good for back up.
