I have a wd passport 1T. It seems to have stopped working. When I plug it in the light comes on I can hear it running but other than that nothing. Nothing shows that it's connected. I tried a different cable but no luck, any ideas? should I just take it in and try to get my data recovered? I have a lot of important files on this one and I don't want to just give up and lose it all.

Try booting to a Linux CD (such as Parted Magic) and see if you can access your data that way. Otherwise I'd crack the enclosure open and try connecting the drive straight to the computer (as enclosures have a tendency to fail).
