But as you can see my hard drive is holding me down. So im in the market for a new HDD. I always heard about raptor being the best hard drive. is that still true?.. but its only certin raptors. They do makr crappy ones dont thay?.. I need help on what hard drive to buy. is there somehting faster than raptor?..I need about 80GB.

It all depends on how you want to look at it.

If you view it as: Raptors sometimes fail, therefore they must be poorly-designed, then yes, they are crappy.
If you view it as: Raptors are mechanical in nature, and all mechanical things have a chance to fail (this is not a personal observation, it's a fact), then no, they are fine.

Any HDD from any manufacturer has a chance to fail.

As far as being fastest, for all normal intents/purposes/applications, SATA I is fine vs SATA II at the current point in time.

im not worry about failure rate at all. I will not keep any improtant data on this hard drive. this is just to run my oss and will ger feformated every few months.

I am only intrested in speeds.

so in terms of speed how is the Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s Hard Drive

is there anything faster?

i recommend that you look into a SCSI, its a tad harder then PATA used to be to set up but there are guides everywhere and it will be damn fast

I would avoid SCSI for home use. It's expensive and often a hassle for the average person to setup. A 150GB Raptor will be plenty fast.

Cromewell is right, FTB you shouldn't make people think they they actually need 15,000 RPM Hds. And also if the poor guy believes you he will have a pocket that you could fit your head in.

Kent.

Like Cromewell said go with the Raptor by far before fooling with a SCSI drive. For all intent and purposes the Raptor will be fine. I,ve installed quite a few Raptors and there failure rates are no higher than any other drive, better than most.

I apreciate the advise of SCSI. and if I were looking for the fastest speed posable I would look into it. but im just looking for a better harddrive to replace mine. and I think a raptor is what its going to be. I actually think i might for for 2 36gb drive and raid them.
