We need more fonts

In the graphic design world, "He who dies with the most fonts wins." Online he who has the most fonts just dies. Why in the twenty-first century are we stuck with the same core set of fonts MS released for Explorer 4 (anybody still using that)?

Comic Sans
Courier New
Georgia
Impact
Times New Roman
Trebuchet
Verdana
Webdings

It would seem that if Google, Firefox, Yahoo or anyone else really wanted contribute to the web they could easily add more fonts to the core group and make them part of a new "core" group. Suddenly, this site best viewed with Firefox or with Google Desktop installed could start being meaningful.

I think they stick witht he same ones, cause most computers are build and coded with the fonts they have been using since well.. the computer was made. it's easier to keep using the same uploaded fonts then making new fonts, and programmin them into all new software..

True but If you use some really nice font that you found at dafont.com and you use it on a webpage if the person that is viewing the page doesnt have the same fonts it will just come up in one of the standard texts I think thats what he/she is trying to say.there should be a way (probably is) that visitors to your page can download the text as the page loads yet again probably already done.

Yeah, true also. However, there are a bunch of scripts and font family coding that you can put on your page to prevent it. All I'm saying is that MS is more concerned about how their OS works than adding a couple fonts to their inventory. Also, if this really effected a site you are viewing, you might as well get the font since you are always viewing it; either way, I don't think it'll be a priority anytime in the future.

Most sites don't have crazy fonts on their websites that requires certain fonts unless they are used in images, banners, etc. in pictures. Other than that, most sites would want their site to be readable and enjoyable if anything; so having a site with a font no one has will probably give them less web traffic which websites don't want.
 
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I personnaly like to type in Wingdings 3. Personal preference.
