Webcam and mic

I would like to get a webcam and a mic to chat with family and friends overseas.

The thing is, I don't know much about what kind of webcam or mic to get and the what it involves.

I have MSN, so maybe I can use netmeeting??

Any help you could give me would be appreciated.

Ive got a phillips web cam and use msn messenger it has a built in mic and was no problem to set up.
