Webcam freezes when using skype

It seems that just about everytime I use skype with my Panasonic Let's Note laptop, my external webcam freezes. My question: Will a new webcam solve this problem or could it be something else? My current webcam is called VP-EYE and was probably low-middle priced when I bought it about 6 years ago.

You might have too many programs running at the same time as you webcam. Try using your cam with nothing else. If you are using a cam through messenger such as MSN, freezing is just something you have to deal with.. Cheaper webcams have a tendency to freeze up too. You might need to update your webcam (look in settings to see if it has updates).
