website design - layers problem

hi there, im trying to make a "drop down menu" in Dreamweaver using layers, i am able to make the layer appear and dissapear, but i cant move my mouse over the layer becuase it just dissapears.
this is what i have done so far..

i saw with jan's website, he set up a timer so that it would stay open for a few seconds, how could i do this??

oh btw, pls tell me if i havent given enough info or it doesnt make sense

Yea. In my Dreamwear when I start a webpage from their sample. after working on the dropdown menu for few minutes then the menu disapears
