Website help...

so i have created myself a holding page for myweb the only problem is once i have uploaded it to mt ftp i dont know what folder it should go in.

so which folder does it go in. could someone help me please.

if you need any info then just ask. thanks :confused:
 
The main page should be in the main "folder". Lets say you make a folder called mainpage and you put the index,html in there your website would need to point to www.whatever.com/mainpage/index.html

If you did not put it in the mainpage folder, but just plop it into the area where all the folders are.
 
thanks trizoy. i get what your saying. also i think its where all the main folders are its just no displaying :(

i'll give it a go and let you know what the outcome is. are there any links to any sites that can learn me about this?

i dont have a main page folder. should i create one? also how do i get it to display and have my website know what file to display.

I notice on the far right under the waste basket that you have deleted the folder named 'Public_html'. That is the main folder to your website, why have you deleted it? Restore that or create a new folder calling it Public_html and then simply drop your website pages into that folder and they will display automatically. And of course as somebody else mentioned make sure that the first page you want people to see upon typing your website URL is named index.html, or index.php, index.asp basically, just name it index followed by whatever page type you are using.

thanks Breaks, going to do that now. im very new to all of this website stuff and didnt realise i had deleted that folder!

how can i learn more about all of this? are there anysites or anything that will help me! i seem to be lost with it all.

I don't know of any websites that offer help on this kind of thing although surely your webhost has a support forum or something? :). I'd be more than happy to help with any questions you have as I have various websites and webhosts so I'm quite up to date on most of the general stuff.

it certainly is :)

i think i need to tweak the code a little more but another forum is dealing with that.
