I am confussed on what to look for when setting up my own website...I know that mass storage is need along with RAM, but what kind and how much is what I do not know. I would be looking to run a website from the desktop and be looking to do mass downloading and work with GoLive and Photoshop...thanks

If i understood corectly you are just gonna build your website on the desktop, not using your desktop as server. Well..... the size of the hdd depends on the amount of data that you are gonna share on your web + the amount used by win, and other software. As for ram....same. I don't realy get your question.

Ok sry. I willl indeed be running my desktop as a server for my websites. I will also be using it to run Golive and downloading files around 5gb.

The size of your hdd is relative, depending on the amount files/data thet you wil store. Using a RAID 0 array will help, as well as as a high rpm hdd. www.newegg.com ->search for a high speed sata hdd(Western Digital Rapdtor hdd sound pretty good / SCSI are better if you mobo can support scsi hdd go 4 those)there are some .. Also read on this website the section where the RAID term is explained. Also a server cpu like the Xeon shoud help, a dual cpu mobo, and ram...as much as you can get :) on this site you can find info about what RAID/SCSI/cpu/ are

If you are going to host your own site, you should use as much RAM as your motherboard and operating system will allow.

One of the other important factors to think about is if your Internet connection has a fast enough upload speed. Most DSL packages are designed for users browsing the internet and have an upload speed that is too slow to adequately serve pages for someone downloading information from you. For this reason I have found professional hosting to be a cheaper solution.
