1 weird question ?
My work pc specs is
A-open Motherboard
256MB DDR
1.8 GHz intel Celeron processor
1 Hard drive 40GB (partitioned 20/20)
Winxp (vista visuals) with all latest software..

My home PC is
Gigabyte Motherboard
1GB DDR (2x512)
3.0GHZ P4 processor
3 Hard drives (3x80GB)
winXP.no visual styles..running windows classic

And yet my work PC is faster than at home..

why is such when Home specs is far better...?

viruses, spyware, mailware on your home pc

i dont think so.I'm running kaspersky AV Personal Edition 6.0 fully updated each day (and yes it removes and clean spywares).SO no viruses. My brother' s PC have Norton AV 06 so i make him run a scan on mine if i need to double check. So no possibilities to be viruses...

Or is it the type of memory.???

Im guessing either you have serious hardware defects that are crippling the system, or its sull of rubbish sich as robina described above

i take it you mean malware, not mailware...

duh !

Ya dude i was guessing hardware i always blame the memory modules.Cannot be anything else..thankss dude..

ps: i thought it was "mailware" also...haha (lol)

You'd be suprised how much of that stuff can slip between programs. I don't suggest just running a single program for Spyware and what not. I ran Spybot S&D on a laptop just today, and it found about 7 tracking cookies. I ran Adaware aftewards, and it found around 200 more!

Have you reformated lately?
Try removing old programs, taking large files and sticking them on your other hdds; stuff like that.

What exactly do you mean by faster? Are you talking about things like programs loading, playing games ect ect? Or are you talking about websurfing? Because if webpages just pop up faster on your work pc that is because of the isp they probably have a t3 connection however if everything just seams faster than your home pc I would have to agree with the statements above and reformat and reinstall windows. If that does not work then I would get a celeron...lol!

You'd be suprised just how fast a freashly loaded computer actually runs, even a lower end one. Just for an example, my grandparent's old Celeron 700MHz used to take about 4 minutes to totally load Windows ME(that's loading the desktop, startup stuff, etc etc...) I reloaded the machine with XP and a virus scan(no, they didn't have one before...) and it cut the boot time to around 1 minute.
