Ok i have an optowrite DD0405 dvd writer +rw and -rw i ahve only used fujifilm DVD-R 4.7 GB dvd recordables and when i try and play them on anything about halfway through the movie or video it skips and stops and the sound is off and i get very poor quality i have used sooo many different dvd burning programs each with different results really. i have no clue what else to do. BLAH!!!!

I don't have much experience with DVD-burning, but with CD-burning, it always helps to burn them at a slower speed. Takes more time, but slow cooking brings out the better quality stuff sometimes.

(I clicked on your link; hope you get enough to get that laptop :) )

I'd say your problem comes down to a combination of a relatively poor DVD burner, and your media (it's not too bad, but certainly not great).

potshot is correct, you'll need to burn slower for higher quality.

there should be nothing wrong with your dvd drive or media. if you haven't used it for a while or anything, maybe run a dvd lense cleaner cd through it once or twice. your problem may be how fast you are burning the dvd. something like 2x-4x would be an appropriate speed to get good quality.

the other thing is the quality of the original video/movie you are trying to copy in the first place. if the source is poor, then of course it will turn out poor. the size of the source also, lets say its a mere 320x320 video size and you are trying to have it watchable on television screens. the quality will not look that great.

Perhaps I should clarify my response, I can see how it could be misinterpreted. Using a high quality DVD burner (e.g. Plextor) with high quality media (e.g. TY, MCC) will allow you to burn at high speeds without encountering these sorts of problems, although it's usually best to burn at slower than the max speed anyway.

Trying to burn at high speed with a cheaper burner and budget media (e.g. Princo, CMC) is asking for trouble. This skipping is what will occur. If you run the DVD through Nero DVD speed, or some other quality testing tool, you'll find it reports sections unreadable.

The 'solution' is therefore to burn at a lower speed, as everyone has said.

Obviously, burning a low quality source file will give you a low quality result. This will not cause skipping, however (unless, there's skipping in the source, of course!). The skipping is caused by the DVD player being unable to read the disc properly.
