Weird Internet Problem at Friend's House

So my friend has Cox and I visit his house often. Awhile back I never had problems with his internet; originally he had DSL through Verizon. The problem started when he added a phone line.

When I came over I could access the internet, but it ran strangely slow. We attributed this to his DSL, but recently he has switched to Cox cable internet and the problem persists. My internet at his house is strangely slow and I am unable to play online games with him.

I have a decent knowledge of networking, but no matter what settings I messed with I can't stop this weird problem I have with my computer unable to get a good connection on his internet. Help!

I would like to note that my computer works completely fine at my own house and that of my girlfriend's house. Its only here that I have a problem.

Also my friend's house has multiple computers on the network, so its not like only his computer has appropriate setting to properly access the internet.

Most likely a router setting or possibly modem and router needs to be reset. If there are other computers in the house maybe one of them is constantly downloading something?

You know, I've had this problem many times as well, going to friends houses. And it always pisses me off, because it's the last place I would check, because I say to myself, there's no way my computer is doing it again. What would usually fix it for me was when I would transfer my computer to my buddies house, the "Internet Protocol" settings in "Local Area Connection Properties" would change the IP and DNS settings on its own to some random numbers, or to the last good known IP/ DNS address. So I would just set the options to: "Obtain IP address automatically", Obtain DNS server address automatically". Try that buddy.
