Hello,

I have just completed the upgrade on HP D530 USDT PC. Every time I move mouse pointer or scroll with the keyboard through the page I have soem activity in the drive. It looks like the Video ram might be involved in this. Could anybody help me to understand what is that. Is it normal to have it?

D530 has Intel 865G video controller.

Thanks

first of all welcome to computer forum!

if its just a bit of activity its all right. if its alot then thats something else. do you hear it clicking or something when moving the mouse/scroll? if it is then it may be dying or failing

thanks for that

is there any way under any technology that allows the use of hard drive to serve the video ram functionality. when i close the window or minimize it i hear a little wistle when i scroll i hear some activity in hard disk. it is not same noise as of full read and write requests. the harddrive is new and it works fine.

my video controller has uma which allows to use system ram for normal video rendering. does that uma use the hard disk anyhow?

thanks

No, the HD wouldn't ever be used as VRAM. Its WAY too slow. Are you sure it's the HD? Mant computer do make funny noises when doing stuff as you mention. Some old Dells I worked on were really bad...

And a strange thing, when my laptop's booting, it makes similar noises(at least to the Dell's. However a few seconds before Windows comes up, there's a POP from the speakers and it stops...

yes my DELL inspiron 1300 does that.. when i shut it down it goes POP and then thers like a white flash on the screen.. do as the_other_one said and open up the case and locate the noise... if it is really coming from the HDD
