Weird Problem

Hey everyone, I just recently upgraded my system for 2010 and its pretty sick. I'm a problem with it though while powering the pc and shutting it down. When I power it, it will turn on, then turn off for about 3 seconds and turn back on and fully boot. When I turn it off, it turns off and about 3-4 seconds later it turns itself back on. Anyone know how to fix this problem because I checked different aspects and can't seem to find the problem. It's pretty annoying. :(

Thanks!

Wow...that's weird and a little confusing... I'd say it's either your PSU or mobo.

I had a PSU that would work just fine, but as soon as I shut the computer off, it would not come back on unless I flipped the switch on the PSU off then back on. It worked fine with other boards and other power supplies worked fine on the computer...

Agreed. Very odd.

Will the system boot up so you can get into the BIOS without any drives attached to the PSU?

What is your new PSU and Mobo (make/model)?

The PSU is a Ultra X3 1000 Watt and the mobo is an EVGA P55 SLI. Its weird because there shouldn't be anything wrong with the PSU because it worked fine before.

It might be that. I'll have to put those standoffs later and see what happens. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Yup, that's the problem... The board is in direct connection with the metal case, therefore creating extraneous current and causing all this crazy activity. If you look at any motherboard, there is no circuitry near the holes for the screws so that the standoffs can separate the current in the motherboard from the case and prevent shorting.

I found out the solution to my problem today. :) I ended up calling EVGA because that's my motherboard manufacturer and it turned out that EVGA released a BIOS update at the end of December which I didn't know about and it fixed my problem. :)
