Weird things hitting my desktop PC.

Hi everyone. Before I go into my problems, I would just like to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanauka (forgive bad spelling), and overall Happy Holidays!
;)

A while ago I had an attack on my system. My Internet Explorer's homepage was changed (hijacked) so that it pointed to some unheard of site, saying I needed to download this software, to handle this issue. Of course, I wasn't going to do it!

I ran a number of programs--Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot - Search & Destroy, Verizon-Yahoo's anit-spy+virus--and I had to run them a few times, to finally get all traces of viruses, and a couple of trojans off, as well as restoring my Home Page. Luckily, during all this mess, my Firefox remained ok!
:)

Please E-mail me at [email protected], too.

However, now, some weird stuff is going on, and I'm not sure what's going on. I still get the occassional tracking cookie and whatnot, but I think there's something deeper going on.

1) While I can still load it and send IMs with Yahoo's messenger, I can no longer access the smilies, audibles, nor any of the other "advanced features." Even if I enter the : and ), only the symbols show, not the actual icon.

2) I can't add any additional wall papers to my desktop. Usually, I can just right click and "set as desktop." Now, I only have 4 images from windows default to choose from. I can browse for new images, but I can only get these 4 images for my desktop.

3) It used to be, with my Windows Media player, the last playlist I had would be up and loaded when I'd open it. Now, I have to manually load a playlist each time.

4) My PC will no longer recognize DVDs. It will still recognize CDs. It's one drive to read DVDs and CDs, and a 2nd to burn. I can do nothing with DVDs anymore.

This has all happened after I though I'd cleaned those attacks from my PC. Am I going to hafta to take my PC to a shop?

FYI: I was trying to look for my Windows XP CD to reinstall everything, but it seems I lost it when I moved a while back.
