weirdest keyboard problem I have ever seen

Here is the deal:

CTRL+ALT+DLT works to bring up logon menu. This is a dell laptop running widows xp pro btw. I can not insert any letters normally by typing them on the oboard keyboard (the laptop one) and the wireless keyboard hooked up to it. If I hit "s" the shutdown menu appears like I just hit CTRL-S or something. Same thing for "o" and "d" since those letter are underlined. If I actually hit CTRL+S nothing happens. So I change password to be blank so I can atleast logon. I bring up word and try to type in something...nothing happens. If I hit any of the underlines letters like "v" the view menu drops down.

The mouse even seems to be having its own uinque problems. If I double click a folder to open it up, the properties menu shows up instead. I have to right click open just to bring it up.

Any ideas how to make my stuff work again?

I should also note (to make it clear) that it is not the keyboard itself since I plugged in a brand new keyboard to the USB port and it suffers the exact same problem (so a total of 3 keyboards including the laptop keyboard suffer this problem).

try using a regular SP2 keybaord if you can, it might solve the problem. My wireless keybaord deosn't work in BIOS at all, so use an old keybaord that deosn't use USB.

I hope you mean PS/2... and most lappies dont have PS/2 ports. You should try to go to the Keyboard Properties area in the control panel, see if any of the settings there are changed somehow.

I did go into the keyboard properties in the control panel. There wasn't anything there to help fix this problem. The laptop doesn't have a PS/2 port.

It sounds like the keyboard controller of the motherboard in the laptop is bad. You can try to have it repaired, but it probably won't be worth it. Time to get a new laptop... :(

did you check to see if the sticky keys option is on, because it sounds like everything works like the ctrl key is pressed.
