Weirdest s-video cable problem

:confused:Ok, i will try to explain my situation as well as i can..

I have an s-video cable hooked up from my computer to my tv. In the beginning i was struggling to get colors, it sometimes went black and white, and when i did get colors they were not too good. I settled on the not too good colors however, as they were acceptable to watch.

Then one day the black and white came back and as i was putting the cable in and out to get them back i suddenly had perfect colors!! yay! This lasted for six months, regardless of moving the computer around, touching wires, plugging in and out etc.

Then suddenly it went black and white again. i am now able to get the crappy colors from time to time, but this is the strange part: this depends on other wires (like the sound input) or if i open my cabinet. If i take the cabinet "door" off all together i have a better chance of getting colors. The color also gets sharper if i put my hand on the cabinet.

I tried the cable in my laptop, and had the same results. Got color, but then if i put headphones in for example, they would go away.

What the hell is wrong with my cable? or computer? anyone know if i should buy a new cable? or if its the computer? or whatever this strange thing could be? i dont wanna go out and buy a new cable just to get the same problem.

S video is really old and crap. When i used s video i had the same problem as you it kept going black and white and when it was in colour there were lines through the tv screen. to fix the black and white i just lightly twisted the cable connector that was plugged into the video card and eventually would bring back colour.
