I got my computer today only 703$ but didnt get it off the net or build it. Its a Compaq with a 17 LCD monitor. I decided not to build one because I only have a month till school but I know i'll build me one someday. I think it was a good deal the price dropped from 938$to 703$! The retail LCD from Compaq is 480$.

I do have another question guys what are some good brands for video cards ATi or Nividia for an agp8x slot. Thx for all the help guys

I used to be a Nvidia fan but ATI's cards are more bang for the buck. The Radeon 9800 Pro just dropped below 200$ and is more than you could need for the top games out right now. If you go with radeon make sure it is a PRO or XT series. I also suggest not getting sapphire brand. MSI or ATI brand is recommended (and cooled greatly).

Either brand works fine. Just make sure you dont get the following cards:
ATi: 9800SE, 9600SE, 9200LE, 9200SE, 9200, X300, X600
nVidia: GFX5200, GFX5500
And you'll be fine :)

My radeon 9600 is a 256mb sapphire. It works quite well and as good as a true ATI board as far as I can tell.

Indeedy, Saphhire's are plenty fine; the only difference between them and "stock" ATI cards is that they are made overseas. For damn near everyone on the planet, there's no difference between a Sapphire card and an ATI card other than what's on paper

Would it be wise to shop on ebay for a video card? Probally not right, because you dont know if its been used. What about memory?

I dont ever buy much online anymore (cuz I can get it cheaper in store) but id have a look at stores that specialize in computer parts rather than a generic "store" like ebay

i use a radeon 9800 pro 128mb and it would be kikass if i had an 8x slot

but ive heard that its a pretty good card so i go ATI

In all actuality there aren't any cards that even saturate a 4X AGP bus. Not even the 6800 Ultra/X800XT will exceed the 8X specifications.

Quite correct.. even in synthetic benchmarking damn near nothing even comes close to reaching AGP6X so this PCI Express and AGP8X stuff is all marketing fluff (for now)

I found out I have a 240 Wat PSU will that be a problem getting a AGP 8x video card?
You're running a XP3000 off the A8N board with a 240W PSU? I'm surprised you got that far. Now unless you're talking about an AGP8X GF4MX/GFX5200/Radeon9200 type of card then you will definitely need to up the PSU
