What are benchmarks measured in?

I am doing a science fair project, and it involves processors and testing their performance. i need to have a unit for everything i do, therefore i need to have a unit for a 'benchmark'. i am running Performance Tester 5.0 to test my computers speed. thanks

erm... there really is no unit for the points on a benchmark, you'll have to invent something, how about "points", abbreviated to "pts". Or perhaps merging benchmark points into sometrhing like "bmp".

There is no "official" unit for it so be inventive.

i thought a proc. could be measured in flops (floating point operations.) the pc u test these processors in could be a control and the processor would be the variable. run the same benchmarking program on each processor. if anyone sees any problems with this solution please post.

uhh .. the only problem is i cant use more than $25 and i only have one socket 939 processor.

Then i highly suggest you pick a different project, or do this test with very old CPU's around socket A or under, you can buy a bundle uf um(like a lot) off of ebay with that money then do tests with more then the 1 CPU you have.
