I've heard about this dynamic IP thing, and i dont even know what it is, or even how to set it up.... are there benifits to having it?

The difference between the two is as follows:

Static IP: You put in the specific address that your ISP has given you for the computer to connect to the internet.
Dynamic IP: The router or cable modem looks for whatever IP your ISP has provided at the time.

Key point: Static IP is fine, until your ISP changes your IP (which can happen relatively frequently when it gets new subscribers). With the Static IP, your computer will only try to connect at that IP, and if your IP has changed, you won't be able to connect to the 'net until you get the new IP address. Dynamic IP searches and acquires the IP every time, avoiding this problem completely :). Short of it, set it to Dynamic, it's a lot easier in setting up, and for maintenance in the long run...
