What are your thoughts on these?

honestly i'd go with the Case/PSU from tigerdirect... never ordered from there but, it's cheaper and has a stronger 12V rail... 25 vs. 18... there are of course more things to consider, but that just stood out to me... but let it be known that mose Case/PSU combos aren't of very high quality, so it may come DOA...

Well I'm shopping for a PSU mostly, but I just stumbled across the case and the PSU together, so I figured if I can get a case and a PSU for a good price why not go that route, but if the PSU that comes with the case is crap it becomes not worth it. I'm looking for a decent PSU that is 400-500 watts for a basic PC. I need something that is semi reliable and wont die in a year. I'm looking to spend not to much more than $40, is this possible?

I didn't even notice that the case has a PSU, just go with that if you want something affordable.

well how about you just give your computer specs to us... and we can put 2 and 2 together and figure out if you really need anything more than just the cheapest one there is... :P... chances are the cheapest one you can find will get you buy, but with the higher prices come greater features, warranties, and reliabilities...

HAHA not to much for this PC

2.0ghz AMD

ECS K7S5A

eVGA GeForce MX4000 128MB PCI

3 Maxtor 300Gig HD's IDE

DVD burner/Cd rom

512MB Ram-1g

This is more just for floating around the net, so cheap games, but mostly movies and music. It is going to be my storage PC for the most part. So yeah nothing to amazing

i'd say that anything you can find with the proper amount of cables will work for you... cheap or not... if you want that Case/PSU, that's the best thing you offered as a suggestion...

I'm just worried about the dependability of the PSU, because it seems like everything I read about the PSU's that come the cases are crap and end up dying after a few months

well it's either pay XX dollars for a cheap one that you'll have to replace X amount of times in the same amount of time you would only have to replace the XX amount one 1 time... make sense?

basically you'll pay a premium for reliability... but you might just get a good cheap one that will last you...

Well I have to say the one that is in my Compaq now is going on 6 years now (knock on word). You know I dont really care if the PSU you dies I just dont want the PSU to short out and burn the CPU, and HD's

well i wouldn't be worried about that... if a PSU burns a CPU out... it's probably a short in the motherboard... if so, that should be handled under a warranty of some sort... and i haven't heard of a CPU getting burned up unless it was overclocked...

for comparison purposes and having said that, not all high price PSU are much, if any, better than the cheap "shit"... price does not imply quality...

Does anyone have any experience with this power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153023
DON'T touch it. It's a rebadged HEC 300W unit, and that's all the power it will put out. DFI use Thermaltake Purepower units as an example of what NOT to buy. Take a look at PSU101 for some solid recommendations.

PSUs failing spectacularly, taking components with them is a very well documented occurance. It is not a fault with the motherboard, and will not be covered under warranty.

see... i'm not the smartest one here... just offering my opinions and knowledge...:P

thanks for pointing out that ceew1...

Ok I read PSU 101 and Case 101 and I did learn a few things. I must say both of those are written VERY well and are pretty helpful. So I want to start by thanking the creators of them, THANK YOU :)

Now like I listed before I dont really need a case seeing as I have 3 spares already, but if I can get a decent case with a decent power supply for the same price I would rather pick up a combo deal. So I found this on newegg and I would like to know if the PSU that is included is worth a damn.

Ok I was reading through everything I wrote and I noticed that I didnt give you guys much detail into the use of this PC and components. So here is the deal for what this PC is going to be used for. It is going to go into either the spare guest room in my house or in my parents room. Either way it wont be used as a gaming PC and it is going to be staying put and not carted around from house to house. There is going to be 3-5 Hard drive in it, but 2 of them are going to be Exterenal and the other 3 are going to be internal 300gig drives each (I know I will need to get molex splitters for the PSU). It is either going to have a ECS K7S5A Mobo with anywhere from a 1.8 Ghz to a 2.0GHZ AMD processor, 4-5 fans, A DVD RW and Basic CD Rom drive. Now the last thing is going to be a eVGA GeForce MX4000.

So as you can see components wise there is not much there, but the PC is going to be used to watch movies, downloads, school work, MUSIC, Surfing, playing Emulators and possibly the SIMS. So its not going to be used for gaming, but it will be on for long periods of time and hooked up to a Surge Protector. So is this PSU above good for doing such or should I look somewhere else? Now please keep in mind I want to get off cheap, because this is not a main PC or even a secondary PC, in here it is more like a 4 or 5th PC. See the deal is one of my brothers good friends might be living with us for about a year because his mother pretty much abandoned him for drugs and his father is a low life scumbag who left years ago, and the rest of his family is from Ohio, so he has no one else out here to help him and he doesnt want to leave his school, so my parents are going to take him in until his mother straightens out. I'm not sure if my parents are going to buy him a cheap one or if they are going to put this one in his room (our spare room) or if they are going to take it. This is why I'm trying to get off as cheap as I can, because its not really going to be used for much, BUT it will be used a fair amount. Originally I was just going to build this and keep as a back up, but since I found out about Matt coming to live with us my plans changed.

I don't need anythign fancy, just something that will work and last atleast 1-2 years without to many issues. I know that some people live by the saying "you get what you pay for" and I mostly agree with that, but I just need something and I dont want to spend alot, because after he leaves this thing is going to end up as a huge bookend. I hope that is enough info for you to get a better idea :)

List of what is going to be used:

ECS K7S5A Mobo with anywhere from a 1.8 Ghz to a 2.0GHZ AMD processor

4-5 fans

A DVD RW and Basic CD Rom drive

eVGA GeForce MX4000

512mb-1g Ram

it should work... i guess it just sounds like you are trying to power a fairly high number of devices... but like i said, it should work...

The case is almost hideous IMO. You would think there would be a lot nicer out there for the same money?

EDIT: nm, I see you bought a different one. I actually like that one better.
