I think it depends on the game you play, there are many games that are GPU bond and don't even use more than 2 cores. For example, if you play Crysis, you would see much more performance gain by upgrading your GPU. Crysis is not CPU intensive game.

But there are some games like Dragon age origin, GTA 4 and Resident Evil 5 that need a lot of CPU power. Those games will not run well if you don't have Quad core or a very fast dual core, even if you have fast GPU

I'm going to agree with you there. I might try overclocking my CPU back up to 3ghz with my new PSU. It's much more stable.

Well both kind of outdated alot now,But if i had that system the Graphics card would be the first thing i would upgrade.

Well i just bumped my CPU back up to 3ghz. it gave me a 5 FPS boost in heavy action with GTA4. I was surprised when i looked on the box of gta4, it said that a 3870 met the recommended spec!

Well, when things really get heated up (cop chases with helicopters, explosions and lots of cars) i get 17-25 FPS. Otherwise it's a solid 32-36 FPS outdoors and 50+ indoors.

I'm cautious about going further. my vcore is already at 1.4v, and i'm only at 3ghz. Of course prime95 will be the judge of stability.
