Looking to buy some new ram with slight overclocking capabilities. I have a budget of $100-$150. I do little gaming, but a lot of video/audio editing and authoring. If I really need a gig. can I start with 512mb and add another 512mb down the line or will that be slower than one single module - 1 gig of DDR? What is my best value for my system listed below? 1gig. of really good memory might be too expensive for me right now.

it will be a bit slower but not critically so
yeah dual ram 2*512 will be faster than just 1*1gb
uh . No. Socket754 systems dont support dual channel so i dont see how it works faster. Especially when you'd be running commandrate 2 with the two sticks.

so what should I get Corsair, kingston, kingmax, geil, crucial?
For the most part thats up to user preference ... quality control is fairly good across the board :)

are there any ones that I should stay away from? My current PNY has no overclocking ability and had errors on memtest86 on test 4,5 and 6. also, should I plunk down for a whole gig. now or get a really good 512 to add another later?

Practically all memory have "slight overclocking" capabilities ... depends on the amount of OC you want :) (and associated timings)
