What C2D to get?

I am almost done with my build.

I have the Evga 680I mobo A1 rev and was wondering what CPU would be best for gaming/school use/ and overclocking eventually.

Thanks!

E4300 has 800Mhz FSB, I dk about Multiplier, 1.8Ghz
E4400 has 800Mhz FSB, I dk about Multiplier, 2.0Ghz

E6320 has 1066Mhz FSB, 7x Multi, 1.86Ghz
E6420 has 1066Mhz FSB, 8x Multi, 2.13Ghz
E6600 has 1066Mhz FSB, 9x Multi, 2.40ghz

I would go E6420 or E6600, that board is a good OC'er, so are those two CPU's are, too. The E-series has the multi locked, so no such luck there, the X-series has it unlocked.

yeh some of the cheaper ones now have 4mb as well. But yeah the e6600 is the one to go for at the moment, overclock heaven with a nice cooler.

The e6600 overclocks just as well as the rest of the C2d's. I don't see a reason to get a e6600 when you can get a e6320 for less and just oc it.

The E6600 has a higher multiplier so it should overclock farther then the E6320.

A higher multiplier makes it easier to overclock, it doesn't necessarily make it more capable. The C2D's all use the same core.. other than L2 cache, a higher FSB,Multiplier they are all the same chip. The only way a higher multiplier will help is when you're motherboard doesn't support a high FSB bus speed. So the only logical (spockified) reason to get an E6600 is if you aren't going to overclock, which most people don't do.

It does make it more capable cause as you said some motehrboards limit the FSB on them. It also starts out at a higher GHz so you dont have to overlcock as much to achive a higher Ghz.

Otherwise all the C2D's are very good overclockers and anyone would be good to get.
