What can cause this?

Hi, i was wondering what can cause this :-

It's a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra 256Mb.
This is with everything at default, just plugged in.

I would guess your monitor can't support either the resolution of refresh rate you have your card set to.

This is my friends computer, when he installs the drivers the computer, the card is detected and the computer freezes

Hmm...might want to go online and get drivers from the Nvidia website. My card does funky things with the drivers it came with (nothing THAT funky, but funky nonetheless) but it works just fine with the drivers from Nvidia's website.

Yeah, I second that, and if Microsoft WindowsUpdate ever tries to give you "new, updated drivers" ignore it! I did it once for my sound card and video card and both got completely screwed up! (yes, it said that NVidia and TurtleBeach were the authors, when obviously they were not...)

It could also be an overheating card.
