What card could I run on my comp?

Hey guys, I'm no pro when it comes to video cards, so I thought I'd ask you for a little help.

I have an HP system running Win XP with 1GB ram, 200GB hard drive and an Athlon 64 3400+

I hope that's enough info. I'm not sure on how to find out what my motherboard is. Can't find it in device manager anyway:confused:

I was wondering what are the best graphics cards I could install for gaming purposes? I was looking at the Geforce 6800 GS, but I'm thinking my processor may not be able to handle it?? My BIOS says the processor is running at 2.4GHz, yet my control panal in Windows lists 1.8GHz? Might be refering to something else though, I dunno, I'm no computer pro.

Anyway, I'd be grateful if anyone could help me out. I'll post up more info if you require it.

Thanks,

Leon.

Well, to find out your motherboard model, simply download CPU-Z. (Search it on Google.) After that we will be able to help you more.

The best cards you can get for gaming are either the ATI Radeon x1800 series GPUS or the nVidia 7 series GPUs. I've heard different stuff about which choice is better.

can't handle it??? no iam sure that ur computer can handle the new geforce 7800 GTX 512MB video card, but this card is expensive. if u want a cheap and a good card go with 6800 GS.

Guys, thanks for the fast response and the good info.

Dunno if this is useful or not - CPZ says the clock speed of my processor is 1808MHz

My board is by ASUSTek, and the model is Salmon 1.03. Why they gave it the same name as a fish I don't know.

Any more info you need?

Thanks again,

Leon.

Nothing more really.. the Salmon designation tells me that its a OEM board which we knew because u said it was a Compaq
