Usually the number signifies the color of the ink whether it's black or a color cartridge. Each model printer will accept a few different cartridges for that reason in general. Due to some models using a larger amount of ibk in order to do the same amount of printing the cartridges for those would oftebe larger unless that's an option for using a larger capacity cartridge on a certain model printer.
