What do you guys think of this computer?

It's pretty much overkill for most people. 32GB of RAM is unnecessary, sometimes I sit here on my computer with 16GB of RAM and think it's a bit over the top. That CPU is also overkill for most people too. as Ankur said, it depends what you want to do with it. For gaming, this computer is waaayy overkill. For video editing or something that is multi-threaded and resource intensve, it makes a bit more sense.

But hey, who wouldn't want to own a computer like that? :D Are you thinking of building one a bit like it? ;)

Looks very similar to my next route, minus watercooling and 580GTX, if modules drop in price any more, might go for 64 gig of ram, prices on ram keep slowly falling.

if you have that much RAM, then consider making a RAMdisk. 32gb is enough, so that if you're comitted enough, you could run a Windows installation through the RAM itself.

between SSD and ram, theres no real advantage to running a ramdisk, friend compiling a sl client saw at most a 1 minute advantage to running a ramdisk vs using a ssd to do intense read write operations...so no ram disk no.

you see, i was talking to someone who ran a virtual windows box through his RAM, and apparently it halved the times from a SATA3 SSD (don't remember brand, but 500mb read/write) to the RAMdisk.

this was with a sata ii ssd vs ramdisk, on a intel w3550 with 12 gig of ddr3 1333, running VS2010 compiling a linden developer client, on the ssd it took about 23 min, on the ramdisk it took around 21, was not really worth writing home about.

this guy was using a 990X, SLI 590s and 64gb of RAM. He said it boots up in less than a second. I think that'd be quite fun.

Last I heard, he was building one for a mate that was going to have the 3960X, 96gb of RAM and dual 7970s/690s, whichever was faster.

It is definitely an overkill for let's say a gamer. No need for so much RAM and such CPU. But it all actually depends on $. If you don't care about $ then it's all good :D
