What do you think computer will be like in the future?

Imagine the computer of the future (say 10 years or more)

How would you like it to look like?
What would its power be?
What software would run on it? (open source or microsoft-like)
And from the hardware point of view?
bluetooth? Wi-fi? holographic display? media center? voice recognition?
What will it be able to do?
Will it cause a social shift? :P

Tell me about your wildest dreams, I'm all ears ;)

Keep in touch.

I think 10 years from now we will have all that and then some, look at how far we come in the last 10 years, remember in 1995 when the bigest upgrade you could make was going from 8mb of ram to 16mb and I think the biggest hard drive you could get was something like 5gig! Oh yeah and they had like 2,4 or 8mb video cards...lol! One thing I think is going to happen is they will start incorporating high end video cards right into the monitors. I think we are starting to hit the upper end of processor speeds right now and unless we come up with something new I think multiple processors is going to become the norm! I also think fiber optics will someday replace all cables! I am just going to sit back and watch it all onfold, ya never know we might have computers running like 10 15Ghz amd's with memory and video cards built right in them...Dunno but I do know that 10 years from now we will look back and say 256mb video card ROFLMAO! I think within the next few years the term mb will be a thing of the past and everything will be GIG this GIG that! One thing I would like to see happen though is to do something like daisy link computers together and have them be twice as fast, something like you need a faster computer go buy another one and a fiber optic cable hook them up and double your speed :D

PS: Holographic display, I can see that comming within the next 20 years!

I think they will be incredibly small and compact, but still be big enough to allow the people like us to upgrade them and have everything built in, it would probably have yottabytes of HDD spaces and terrabytes of video memory and ram, the processor will be around 7Ghz, as i think i read somewhere that that is the speed of light, and cannot go any faster, so maybe multiple processors. Then it should basically do everything you say, voiuce recognition, mind reading? also a holographic display with 3d OS must be available. As for WiFi and luetooth maybe a satellite link, which can be configured to connect to a local LAN and the internet totally wirelessly.
Basically like a dog but does exactly what you say and can react in a wa you want.
And obviously by then hopefully they will have released an OS the NEVER freezes :P

at some point they will figure out how brains work and turn a brain into a computer 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00,000+ times more powerful that anything we have now, but it will probley only be for special applications cause who wants to run around with a brain?

Dude, I watch the matrix but you watch it too much

I think things will get a lot smaller and a lot faster. I think holagrams and more powerful hardware like current mobiles. I think we are forgetting that law, I can't remember what it's exact name was. But, at some point the cpu is gonna get to its smaller possible size and that speed might not be enough

.

This may sould crazy but I heard they might start using genetic material to store info, (nucleotides in DNA) and processors that would work with those at like 20GHz. That would be cool. Hopefully they will come up with some new way to make processors and break the barrier. I think everything else wont be a problem like hard drives, resolutions, ram, etc. I just wonder what will come after DVD, pocket sized hard drives???

Ghz is a freacecy not a speed.

it will be like a tylennol pill. u sqeeze it, and like everything shows up as a hologram. and yea, its physical to touch, but all hologram. surorund sound built in, and yea.lol. live stripper screen saver too. LMAO!

i am hoping that laptops will be vastly improve and have dual core processors and all that jazz. but processor speed almost doubled every year from 98 onwards so think of the possibilities

I dont think it would have built in surround sounds....surround sound is surroud sound because the speakers well surround you...

This guy also made laser speakers. It heated the air to make vibrations. CRAZY!!! So I guess it could have surround sound built in...

I highly dout someone made a "laser speaker" that "heated air" to make "viberations:" Link? article? where did you see this. Its possible two have surround sound built in(well possible as in theretically, but right now it would never fit inside a case or anything) have 1.just transmitters to speakers elsewhere around the room, which is sort of built in, and 2. have the sound waves to get beams out kind of in a consentrated line and have it bounce off of certain sound reflectors in the room, but it would have to be positioned carefully.

I am into home theater and I have not seen anything about the laser speaker, but I did hear of something close to it and yes it bounces the sounds off the walls from one device, I will see if I can find a link to it, the only thing was it had a limited frequency range from like 1000hz to 2500hz, while they might be able to get the higher frequency up to 20,000hz in the future they will never be able to reproduce the low range that a subwoofer does with this kind of technology! But its still cool!

It was on tv, this guy had a satalite dish thing and pointed it at people and it sounded like the sound was comming from right by them. (It was on the discovery channel)

That's comptlety different, they have had that for a long time, and it has nothing to do with lasers heating up air....

At least if it is what it sounds like it is.

How the hell does a laser heating the air cause vibrations loud enough for us to here.... And how does it make vibrations in the first place. And for the laser to be effective you would have to bend the beam serveral hundreds of times to cover a good surface area.
