What do you think of 2 x 6950?

HI,

What do you think of having two MSI HD 6950s?

Is it worth the money to upgrade that high?

Also, I'm a uber noob here, how does this dual vid card work? What are some of the requirements that I need to keep in mind (say, do those cards need to be exactly identical, the power supply, special program to run the two vid cards, etc..)

Thanks!

for the cards themselves, as long as they are both 6950s they'll work together, but if one is a 2gb and the other a 1gb, they'll both lock down to 1gb, and same for the speeds, they'll drop to the lower of the 2.

For power, you'd want a good quality 750w.

All you need software wise is the crossfire drivers.

Really for the money a single GTX 680 would be better, although it wouldn't be as fast, unless you're running 2 or 3 monitors you wouldn't notice, but you would only need like a 650w power supply and you wouldn't have to worry about drivers. Some games when they come out lack crossfire support and consequently aren't playable, and it can take a while to fix that, especially with amd, as they are a little slow to update drivers normally in comparison to nvidia i believe.

What Jonny said, pretty much. Are you planning on building a whole new system or upgrading your system that you have now? If so, you should post your specs.

If planning on building a new one, post in the desktop forum with your budget, uses for the computer, if you have a monitor or not, and what resolution you want to play at. Also include your question on dual 6950s.
