Yeah I only picked if for the 1gb L2 cache, I don't even know if I need it or the 64 bit (won't use it) Any recomendtions, If intel then what motherboard and will my other components work with it. Thanks

It's 1MB L2 Cache, not 1GB.

If you switch to Intel you will need a new motherboardfor sure, and possibly different memory. And if you are lookingfor similiar performance, it will probably cost more money (I'm thinking LGA775 based system)

I would just stick with what you have accept for the CPU, maybe get a 3000+ Venice and save urself some cash.

He can get a socket 478 which is much cheaper, but he can get a very nice system for his uses for only a few hundred dollars.

He could, but in a year he'll be upgading again if he buys a cheapy PC. Personally I think it'd just be smarter to spend a bit more now and be able to keep the PC longer, it looks as if he has the budget. That and if he decides he wants to try to game on it a year from now, all he has to do is get a new video card and presto' it's a pretty decent gaming rig, with the cheapy PC that wouldn't be possible, he'd have to go and get an entire new PC.

Fair enough, but i would still get the Athlon 64 3000+ Instead, it will save you a good deal of money.

Yea true about the cpu part. if you still dont know how to set up your old Hdd ill help. First take out your old hard drive and see what name brand it is. in my past experience i had to use the same brand of hard drives to set one as master/slave. On the hard drive there is a picture of the back of you hard drive. There should be 3-4 pictures that show you the different jumper positions. place your old Hdd's jumper to slave, and your new one to Master w/slave. Plug them both in to your mobo, start it up and it should recognize it.

You wuoldnt need a 3700+ unless you do some rendering which i take you dont because of the video card. You ought to get a amd 3000+, but keep a graphics card. I found they improve your multi tasking performance considerably, but i usually have about 10-15 windows open.

For what your doing, you can just get a Celeron D ~2ghz, 512MB Ram, Integrated Video, Integrated Sound, for much less. There is no need for that cpu and that much ram for your uses.

Also, consider a SATAII hard drive, there much faster and dont cost that much more. here is a link for a 250GB hard drive for $98: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144417

Ok does the SATAII take a different mother board and I went with Seagate cause of the 5 year warranty, I think my current one is Samsung

Ok i will listen to you all on the CPU I guess, I just thought considering what they can cost that one wasn't bad for my price range regardless of what I was doing, which 3000+ is best, do I need to change anything else.

Current HD is a Samsung SV0412H and I can't find a switch anywhere

Thanks

If your main priority is music, then I suggest a nice sound card like ahe audigy 2 ZS. If you really love music and have a lot of ca$h to spen, then you should get the X-fi Xtrememusic card.
