What do you think of this build?

I was looking into the Asus C90 barebones kit for $979, and I would end up using my existing E6400 (probably buy the Q6600 to replace it in my desktop), and pick up a 2x 1GB DDR2-800 kit on NewEgg.

So the total for the laptop and parts would come out to $1165. Here are the specs:

15.4" WSXGA+ @ 1680x1050
Core 2 Duo E6400
2x 1GB DDR2-800
nVidia 8600M GT 512MB
160GB 5400RPM SATA HD
8x DVD Burner
Intel 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless
Bluetooth 2.0, built-in 2.0MP Camera

If you don't already, take a look at http://forum.notebookreview.com/. They will be able to help you on determining if that company is reputable or not. I did the same thing with MilestonePC when I bought my G1. Other than that I think you will have a nice C90s, however I hear they run hot so be warned of that.
 
I know they will run hot, especially since it's using a desktop processor, but it would be really cool to be able to easily upgrade almost everything, just like a desktop.

The only thing though is that it uses the 945 chipset, which doesnt support 1333Mhz bus, or quad-cores, so theres really nothing higher end I could upgrade to from an E6400 except a few hundred Mhz clock speed.

But i'll check out that forum, thanks for the link.
 
buying your own ram = trial and error, it may or may not work on the laptop. better to buy it with the barebone because they test it.

they sell the 256mb version of the 8600m gt that is ddr3 and higher stock clock rate. the 512mb version is ddr2.

C90P = updated chipset.

I saw that, but it's $75 more.

I didnt know about the C90P, thanks for pointing it out :)

EDIT: Well the C90P sounds great, but it's actually not even out yet :-/
