I was looking into the Asus C90 barebones kit for $979, and I would end up using my existing E6400 (probably buy the Q6600 to replace it in my desktop), and pick up a 2x 1GB DDR2-800 kit on NewEgg.
So the total for the laptop and parts would come out to $1165. Here are the specs:
15.4" WSXGA+ @ 1680x1050
Core 2 Duo E6400
2x 1GB DDR2-800
nVidia 8600M GT 512MB
160GB 5400RPM SATA HD
8x DVD Burner
Intel 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless
Bluetooth 2.0, built-in 2.0MP Camera
The only thing though is that i'm not sure if this company is reputable or not, has anyone heard of GenTech Computers? Heres the link to the site: http://1toppc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=C90S
