CPU: Intel i5 2500K ($219)
GPU: PNY GTX 580 ($409)
Case: NZXT Guardian Black SECC($76)
RAM: Corsair Vengance 8 GB($47)
PSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series 750 Watts($105)
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68($129)
HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB($140)
DVD Drive: SONY Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X ($17)
Comes out to be $1142, just around my price range. What do you guys think and offer any suggestions as for parts that could be better or save me money?

Everything looks good, except I don't see a OS.Also, I suggest that you get a after market CPU cooler if you plan on OCing any. I also see that your getting the 580, so I assume your going to be doing some hardcore gaming, correct? If so, you should get an after market CPU cooler anyway for the long days and nights ya'll be playing though.Almost forgot, a SSD would be great for your OS, maybe a 60gb.

Edit: where are you getting that 580 from for $409?

Thanks for the help, I knew I was forgetting something... It's one from Fry's from PNY with a $40 mail-in rebate, but I've looked at some of the reviews for it, and it seems like the cooling and the noise level aren't too great. In that case, I might downgrade to a high-quality GTX 570 to save some cash. Hopefully that'll be enough to handle most games on max.

you could grab 2 560's and get better performance, but there are many sli issues and xfire too, so a single 570 may be the better option.

How about GTX 460s in SLI or 6850s in Crossfire? They seem to get really solid performance, much better than the GTX 570s.

EDIT: Actually, I've been looking into it and I think I'm actually going to save about $100 and go with the Radeon 6950 2 GB. Apparently, you can switch or flash (not sure quite how it works yet, and change it to the performance of a 6970 without having to spend the extra $100 or whatever it is. Seems like a great deal and I'll get similar performance for a lower price.

Depends on which games you play, but I have heard of a few SLI/Crossfire issues as of late with games.

From experience, GTX570 has maxed every game I have put it on..

Not all 6950's can be unlocked. Just be aware of that, you need a reference model card.

I'd go for 6850 CF or GTX 460 SLI at this point. I had a single 570 as well and it was alright.

Which one is preferable between the 460s and the 6850s?

neither, the single 570 or 6970 will max out any game today, while using the 2 460's would be faster, you wouldn't notice, and in some games, i believe bf3 is one, there is a large number of people unable to use sli or crossfire with the game without stuttering, anomalies, or artifacts, making the other a better option, then you also use less power, and you can upgrade later on for less than replacing the 2

It's always better to get a single more power GPU than two weaker ones.Like whats been said befor, the 570 can run pretty much every game out right know on max setting without lag.IMHO, the 570 would be a better investment.Im not going to break it all down why a single 570 is better, it just is,period.

Sorry to bother you more, but do you think that the unlocked Radeon 6950 has enough performance compared to the GTX 570 to justify getting it?

an unlocked 950 is a 970 which is about equal to a 570, but it is next to impossible in even possible to get a new refrence model card so u could unlock it.

Supposely this 6950 can be unlocked.

The 6970 and the 570 trade blows with each other, but the 570 still pulls ahead most of the time. The 570 and the 6970 are at the same price point, but the 570 has better performance, it only make sence to get the 570.But if you can get a 6950 and unlock it, that would be a better choice, as in performance/price ratio.

Edite: Newegg has a MSI 570 for 319.99, theres some mixed reviews about it, but it's still a good deal.
